It is a fact of modern life that local authorities and similar bodies are frequently placed in the position of defending their decisions and actions in front of the High Court when judicial review proceedings are initiated against them.  The procedures which underpin judicial review are, collectively, somewhat complicated and this webinar seeks to disentangle some of the threads and to provide an overview of the key points to be borne in mind.

This webinar will be of interest to local authority officers and also officers within other similar bodies.  It should be of interest, also, to those litigation lawyers who may wish to gain an initial understanding of this important topic area.  The webinar will include:

  • The role of the courts in relation to judicial review.
  • Those matters which can give rise to judicial review proceedings.
  • How those in an advisory capacity can try to provide advice which seeks to make administrative decisions “judge proof”.
  • Case is appropriate for applications for judicial review note.
  • The “permission stage”
  • Time limits.
  • Applications during the course of proceedings.
  • The remedies which may be sought under judicial review.
