Speakers and Topics Commercial Property Session
Ian Quayle, Speaker and CEO: BSA for Commercial Property Lawyers (this presentation will be delivered virtually)
The Building Safety 2022 is an extensive piece of legislation that continues to cause problems for all associated with the built environment. We will explore the implications of the BSA for commercial property lawyers, including:
- The sale or acquisition of relevant buildings – procedure and provision of management information.
- The sale or acquisition of higher-risk buildings – procedure and provision of management information.
- Ownership Issues for landlords, residential leaseholders, and commercial tenants.
- An examination of  lessons from recent relevant case law.
Nigel Clayton, Barristers: Boundaries
- This is an entertaining and engaging run through all you need to know about managing boundary issues, with Nigel Clayton’s famous 7-point guide to boundaries. It takes in some key points of substantive law; the role of the surveyor and some practice and procedure on dispute resolution. It is equally applicable to both residential and commercial property.
Tracy Thompson, Property Lawyer
The AML Landscape 2026: Best Practice for Commercial Property Transactions
- This practical session explores how the AML landscape is evolving for commercial property lawyers as we move into 2026. Focusing on higher-risk transactions, complex ownership structures and increased regulatory scrutiny, the session provides a clear overview of current AML expectations and how they apply in practice to commercial property work.
- The session highlights what good AML practice looks like on commercial property files, including company identification obligations, source of funds and source of wealth enquiries, risk assessment and ongoing monitoring. Delegates will gain practical insight into how to evidence judgment and decision-making on files and ensure their approach is robust, proportionate and auditable.
Defensible Commercial Property Files: Risk, Supervision and AI
- This forward-looking session examines how commercial property lawyers can create defensible files in an environment of increasing regulatory scrutiny, evolving risk and the growing use of artificial intelligence in legal practice. The session focuses on the practical realities of managing risk, exercising effective supervision and understanding how AI tools can support — and potentially undermine — compliant decision-making.
- The session explores what regulators expect to see on commercial property files, how supervision should be evidenced and how AI use should be appropriately controlled and recorded. Delegates will leave with practical guidance on strengthening file narratives, demonstrating oversight and ensuring their commercial property work stands up to scrutiny.
